Microsoft recently announced it acquired a startup called Movere to beef up its ability to set up more businesses on the Azure public cloud. The terms of the deal were undisclosed. What Movere’s technology does is help IT administrators understand how data center tools are being used and figure out the best options as they move into the public cloud.

Founded in 2008, Movere is based in Bellevue, Washington and counts companies like McDonald’s, IBM, and AT&T as its customers. From a proximity standpoint, Movere is just a few miles away from Microsoft’s headquarters in Redmond.

“As cloud growth continues to unlock opportunities for our customers, cloud migration is increasingly important for business’s digital strategy. Today, I am pleased to announce that Microsoft has acquired Movere, an innovative technology provider in the cloud migration space,” said Microsoft Azure Management partner director Jeremy Winter. “We’re committed to providing our customers with a comprehensive experience for migrating existing applications and infrastructure to Azure, which include the right tools, processes, and programs. As part of that ongoing investment, we’re excited to welcome the leadership, talent, technology, and deep expertise Movere has built in enabling customers’ journey to the cloud over the last 11 years.”

Movere’s discovery and assessment capabilities will complement Azure Migrate and its integrated partner solutions thus making migration an easier process for their customers. And they believe that successful cloud migrations enable business transformation.

With Azure Migrate, Movere, and Microsoft’s ecosystem of independent software vendor (ISV) partners’ solutions will provide choice and a comprehensive set of capabilities from discovery, assessment, to migration and optimization.
