Winston Taylor has added John D. Mitchell as a partner in its Investigations & White Collar Defense Practice in Chicago, strengthening the firm’s litigation and government investigations platform.
Mitchell previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of Illinois and Senior Attorney in the SEC’s Division of Enforcement. He brings more than two decades of legal practice, including 13 years of government service.
His practice covers white collar defense, SEC and CFTC enforcement actions, securities litigation and complex commercial disputes. Mitchell represents companies and individuals in financial services, healthcare, government contracting and cryptocurrency matters involving government and internal investigations as well as civil and criminal proceedings.
As an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the DOJ’s Securities & Commodities Fraud Section, Mitchell led criminal investigations and served as trial counsel in jury trials involving insider trading, securities fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, racketeering and other federal criminal violations.
At the SEC, he led investigations into suspected securities law violations involving investment advisers, broker-dealers, banks and other financial institutions.
