Womble Adds Mark Eckard In Wilmington As Restructuring Demand Increases

By Amit Chowdhry ● Aug 31, 2026

Womble Bond Dickinson has added Mark Eckard as a partner in its Finance, Bankruptcy and Restructuring Group in Wilmington, Delaware, strengthening its capabilities in one of the country’s most important bankruptcy jurisdictions.

Eckard brings more than 20 years of bankruptcy and commercial litigation experience.

His clients include debtors, creditors’ committees, secured lenders, directors and officers, landlords and unsecured creditors, giving him experience representing parties across multiple sides of distressed situations.

His restructuring practice spans Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 proceedings, bankruptcy litigation and assignments for the benefit of creditors.

Eckard also handles related commercial litigation in state and federal district courts.

Womble said demand for restructuring counsel has been increasing and sees Eckard’s deep roots in the Delaware bankruptcy bar as particularly valuable given the volume of large and complex cases filed in the jurisdiction.

Eckard additionally maintains a broad business and commercial practice connected to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

That work includes real estate and commercial transactions, government relations and litigation involving corporate, commercial, real estate, employment and financially complex family law disputes.

Clients also use Eckard as outside general counsel for day-to-day strategic and operational issues.

His practice can therefore span preventive advice and contract matters through negotiations, disputes and formal insolvency proceedings.

The combination gives Womble another lawyer capable of working across both transactional and contentious aspects of a distressed business.

Eckard earned his J.D. from Delaware Law School, formerly Widener University School of Law, and his B.A. from Saint Joseph’s University.
