Wooclap has acquired Vevox, bringing together two education technology platforms focused on increasing participation and engagement during live classes, training sessions and other learning environments. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Wooclap provides an active learning platform for live teaching and training, while UK-based Vevox specializes in audience engagement and inclusive participation.
Together, the companies now serve more than 1,000 higher education institutions and corporate learning teams worldwide.
Customers across the combined organization include universities such as Duke University, the University of Alberta and Durham University, along with organizations including Deloitte, BP, the NHS and Dior.
The acquisition comes approximately one year after Impact Expansion invested in Wooclap to support the company’s international expansion.
Impact Expansion has since backed Wooclap’s growth strategy, which has now resulted in the Vevox transaction.
Wooclap and Vevox are focused on a broader shift in education and professional training as artificial intelligence changes how information is created, distributed and consumed.
The companies believe live learning environments will increasingly need to emphasize participation, collaboration, critical thinking and human interaction as AI makes passive access to information easier.
Wooclap has developed its platform around active learning principles combining learning science, neuroscience and technology.
Its tools are designed to increase participation, stimulate critical thinking and improve learning outcomes during live sessions.
Vevox approaches the market through its “Value Every Voice” philosophy.
The company’s technology is designed to make it easier for participants to contribute during classes, meetings and training sessions, including individuals who may be less likely to speak publicly in a group environment.
Bringing the two companies together creates a broader active learning platform with complementary approaches to participation.
The combined organization also gains a larger community of teachers, trainers and learning designers.
Wooclap said access to feedback from more than 1,000 institutions and corporate learning teams will give the company a larger base from which to conduct research, identify emerging requirements and develop new engagement products.
That scale could become particularly important as both companies develop AI-powered tools for education and workplace learning.
The combined customer network provides a large environment in which the organization can evaluate how teachers and trainers are using AI while identifying features that improve participation without replacing the human components of learning.
Wooclap and Vevox will initially continue operating as separate products.
Existing customers will be able to continue using their current platforms and services.
Over time, the companies plan to bring capabilities from both products into a more unified experience designed around teachers, trainers and participants.
The longer-term strategy is to combine Wooclap’s active learning expertise with Vevox’s inclusive audience engagement technology while developing a new generation of AI-powered engagement tools.
