WP Engine Acquires Big Bite To Bolster WordPress Publishing Tools For Enterprise Media

By Amit Chowdhry • Jan 8, 2026

WP Engine announced it has acquired Big Bite, a UK-based WordPress agency known for building advanced editorial and publishing workflow tools for large media organizations, as the company deepens its focus on serving publishers and agency partners.

WP Engine, which provides WordPress hosting and related developer and agency products, said Big Bite has spent more than a decade developing newsroom platforms, publishing workflows, and specialized tooling to improve how organizations create, manage, and distribute digital content. Big Bite’s past client work has included major media brands such as The Times, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post, Metro, and Macworld, according to the companies.

As part of the transaction, WP Engine said Big Bite’s agency business will be wound down, with its team transitioning into WP Engine’s Engineering organization. The combined teams plan to build software intended to enhance publishing solutions for WP Engine customers and its global network of agency partners, the companies said.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

WP Engine said it supports more than 1.5 million websites and offers enterprise-grade WordPress solutions and tools, including products such as Local and Advanced Custom Fields, among others. Big Bite was founded in 2011 and has specialized in large-scale WordPress publishing ecosystems, high-traffic sites, custom themes, and plugins for enterprise organizations with complex editorial needs.
