Wrexham AFC Welcomes New Minority Investment From Apollo Sports Capital

By Amit Chowdhry • Dec 9, 2025

Wrexham AFC has received a new minority investment from Apollo Sports Capital, an affiliate of Apollo Global Management, marking a significant step in the club’s long-term growth plan and its ambitions to eventually reach the Premier League. Majority owners Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds will continue to oversee all club operations as controlling shareholders.

The investment provides fresh capital to support both competitive development and major infrastructure initiatives, including financing for the ongoing redevelopment of the STōK Cae Ras. This project includes the construction of the new Kop Stand as part of the larger Wrexham Gateway regeneration program, which is designed to enhance the city’s economic future, improve transportation connectivity, and create a central destination for residents and visitors.

The addition of Apollo Sports Capital follows a minority investment made by the Allyn Family Office in October 2024, collectively strengthening Wrexham’s financial foundation as it advances its multi-year plan. The club recently secured its third consecutive promotion, a historic achievement that elevated Wrexham into the EFL Championship for the 2024/25 season, making it one of the few teams in English football history to accomplish such a rise.

Wrexham AFC, founded in 1864, is the oldest club in Wales and one of the oldest professional football teams in the world. The club competes in the second tier of English football and continues to build toward larger attendances, improved facilities and meaningful community impact. The organization’s owners continue to guide the club through four core principles: protecting Wrexham AFC’s heritage, reinforcing community values, growing global visibility and establishing a winning culture.

Apollo Global Management, which had approximately eight hundred eight billion dollars in assets under management as of September 2025, views this investment as an opportunity to support both the club and broader economic development in Wrexham. Apollo Sports Capital intends to provide long-term strategic capital to enable growth both on and off the pitch.
