X-Bow Systems announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Evolution Space, a strategic move designed to expand its production capacity for solid rocket motors and enhance its hypersonic propulsion capabilities. The transaction is expected to close in March or April.
The acquisition will bring Evolution Space’s hypersonic technology portfolio and its advanced solid rocket motor manufacturing facility at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi into X-Bow’s operations. The move is aimed at helping address critical munitions shortages and supporting national defense requirements by increasing domestic manufacturing capacity.
Evolution Space specializes in rapidly responsive solid rocket motors, propellants, and subsystems used in next-generation space and defense applications. The company operates facilities in Stennis Space Center, Mississippi, and Mojave, California, and in 2023 became the ninth privately funded company to place a launch vehicle into space and the second to do so using a solid rocket motor.
X-Bow said the integration of Evolution Space will significantly expand its energetics production capacity and introduce additional hypersonic propulsion capabilities. The combined company will also gain access to proprietary technologies related to advanced propellants, igniters, and other critical rocket motor components.
The Stennis facility is expected to play a key role in increasing production output as X-Bow works to meet growing demand for solid rocket motors and other defense-related propulsion systems. The company said the acquisition aligns with broader efforts to strengthen the U.S. defense industrial base and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains.
Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, X-Bow focuses on advanced solid rocket motor manufacturing, suborbital launch services, and defense technologies. The company produces energetics materials, rocket motor components, and integrated propulsion systems, and supports multiple national security programs involving missile technologies and hypersonic systems.
X-Bow reports an annual energetics production capability of up to 3 million pounds at full capacity and operates a vertically integrated manufacturing model spanning propellant development through full rocket assembly. The company has completed three national security launches and is involved in 14 active solid rocket motor programs.
Evolution Space founder and chief executive officer Steve Heller will join X-Bow as chief engineer following the acquisition. The combined organization aims to accelerate the development of advanced propulsion systems and scale manufacturing to support defense and space missions.
