SpaceXAI announced a brief rebrand message on X, posting: “We are now @SpaceXAI.” The short update signals the next step in the public identity shift following SpaceX’s earlier acquisition of xAI. The update also included a new logo.
The rebrand builds on SpaceX’s recent acquisition of xAI. This combination is part of a broader effort to integrate AI, rockets, space-based internet, direct-to-mobile device communications, and real-time information platforms.
An earlier company statement outlined a long-term vision for scaling AI compute beyond terrestrial data centers. SpaceX said current AI infrastructure depends on large land-based data centers that require substantial power and cooling, and it positioned space-based AI infrastructure as a long-term path for scaling compute capacity.
A key part of that strategy is orbital data centers. The SpaceX update described a future in which satellites directly harness solar power in space to support AI-driven applications at massive scale.
SpaceX also tied the AI infrastructure vision to Starship. The company said Starship will begin delivering more powerful V3 Starlink satellites to orbit, with each launch adding more than 20 times the capacity of current Falcon launches carrying V2 Starlink satellites.
The update also said Starship will launch next-generation direct-to-mobile satellites designed to deliver cellular coverage everywhere on Earth. Longer term, SpaceX said higher Starship launch rates could enable millions of tons to be delivered to orbit and beyond each year.
SpaceX’s earlier announcement estimated that launching 1 million tons per year of satellites generating 100 kW of compute power per ton would add 100 gigawatts of AI compute capacity annually. The company also said there is ultimately a path to launching 1 terawatt per year from Earth.
Against that backdrop, the SpaceXAI rebrand appears to give the combined AI effort a clearer identity. The name ties xAI’s Grok products and AI ambitions more directly to SpaceX’s satellite, launch, and infrastructure strategy.
