YouTube announced the expansion of its in-app video sharing and messaging feature to users in the United States and additional international markets. The feature enables users aged 18 and older to share videos and communicate directly within the YouTube app, providing a new way for viewers to connect around content without having to switch to other messaging platforms.

The update is intended to make it easier for users to discuss and react to videos while they are watching them. Through a new messaging icon within the app, users can invite friends and family members, share videos, and exchange real-time reactions and conversations. The feature is designed to create a more interactive experience by allowing users to engage with content and with each other in a single place.

The expanded functionality supports a wide variety of content formats available on YouTube, including music videos, educational tutorials, and Shorts. Whether users want to share a newly released music video, recommend a how-to guide, or send a humorous Short clip, the feature allows them to do so directly from the viewing experience.

YouTube said the expansion builds on encouraging feedback from countries where the feature has already been introduced. The company noted that users in those markets have responded positively to the ability to share and discuss videos without leaving the platform.

As with all features on YouTube, messages and shared content are subject to the platform’s Community Guidelines. The company said its existing policies will continue to apply in order to help maintain a safe environment for users.

The rollout represents another step in YouTube’s efforts to strengthen engagement and community interactions across the platform. By adding messaging capabilities directly into the app, YouTube is aiming to provide users with more opportunities to connect over shared interests and favorite videos.

YouTube said it plans to gather feedback from users in the newly supported markets and intends to continue expanding the feature to additional regions in the future.
