ZEISS acquired Ceres Holographics, a Scotland-based holographic technology company focused on hologram manufacturing and automotive display applications. Ceres Holographics will become part of ZEISS Microoptics.
The acquisition adds Ceres’ hologram manufacturing technology to ZEISS’ ProSight platform, which serves as the company’s core holography technology foundation.
ZEISS said the combination will accelerate commercialization of holographic windshield display technologies for the automotive industry.
The companies also see potential applications across retail, near-to-eye displays, aerospace, and public transportation.
Ceres Holographics was founded in 2009 and has focused primarily on automotive windshield display applications.
The company has developed proprietary hologram manufacturing technology and relationships with automotive OEM customers.
ZEISS plans to combine Ceres’ technology and application expertise with its own global manufacturing capabilities, customer relationships, and scale.
