Zerocater is a corporate catering and food service company that provides customized daily meals and cafeteria solutions for businesses by partnering with local restaurants, caterers, and food trucks. Pulse 2.0 interviewed Zerocater CEO Ali Sabeti to learn more.

Ali Sabeti’s Background

Ali Sabeti

Could you tell me more about your background? Sabeti said:

“Great products feel like magic, leaving users amazed as the seemingly impossible becomes reality. My passion is building products that feel like magic to make people more productive and fulfilled in their day-to-day work. At Zerocater, we’re bringing the power of AI to the $180B catering industry, making meals effortless for groups of all sizes. The industry is ripe for disruption, and our AI-powered solutions have scaled to ~$100M in ARR across 12 cities in North America. Prior to Zerocater, I did this at Salesforce, where I built and led the marketing organizations for Canada and Latin America, evangelizing Salesforce’s value across every sector of the Fortune 500. I began my career in corporate finance, building the first long-range plan at Salesforce that helped the company scale from ~$1.5B in revenue and ~5,000 employees to ~$10B+ in revenue and ~30,000 employees.”

Role

What are your primary responsibilities? Sabeti shared:

“I’m Zerocater’s Chief Customer Evangelist. My goal is to meet with every customer to understand their needs, uncover what they wish our products could do (even when it feels impossible), and translate those insights into solutions that no one else can build. I empower a team of talented builders who consistently deliver what makes Zerocater instrumental to our customers’ success. The best part of my day is keeping our teams inspired and focused on creating the solutions that amaze our customers.”

Favorite Memory

What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Sabeti reflected:

“Building our newest product, CaterAi, and seeing customers’ shocked reactions the first time they used it. CaterAi is the first AI agent that can fully plan a catered meal from building custom menus to booking onsite staff, all in under five minutes. Prior to CaterAi, it could take users weeks to email caterers and get menus and quotes for their event. Seeing customers use CaterAi for the first time and the sense of excitement and delight they had as it instantly planned their catered event is something I’ll never forget.”

Core Products

What are the company’s core products and features? Sabeti explained:

“At Zerocater, we make workplace dining effortless by combining our deep catering expertise and rich user preference data with the power of AI to build personalized catering and cafeteria experiences. Our products serve a wide range of customers, from a customer ordering catering for an office happy hour to a Fortune 500 company running a fully managed cafeteria with onsite cooking.

— CaterAi: An AI agent that plans and coordinates a catered meal in minutes by creating custom menus and arranging onsite staff and themed décor.

— Corporate Catering: Daily office meal programs with curated menus personalized to each employee’s preferences, featuring top-rated local restaurants and caterers.

— Corporate Cafeterias: A fully managed, personalized cafeteria experience with multiple onsite cooking stations led by high-quality chefs, plus a complete snacks, beverage, and coffee program.

Challenges Faced

Have you faced any challenges in your sector of work recently? Sabeti acknowledged:

“Our biggest challenge is how do we build high-performing teams that solve hard problems while also building a culture where people have fun when they come to work every day. How do you create a culture where diverse teams collaborate to solve problems instead of pointing fingers when you hit the first roadblock? It starts with a strong foundation of trust, shared values, and accountability so everyone stays energized to build powerful products and deliver results for our customers.”

Evolution Of The Company’s Technology

How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Sabeti noted:

“Since our founding and after completing Y Combinator in 2011, we’ve been on the leading edge of using technology to disrupt the highly archaic catering sector. Our products are built on proprietary technology that helps us understand our customers’ preference data, enabling us to create custom meal programs aligned with our users’ tastes. With the recent advances in LLMs, we can now use AI to automate key decisions, allowing an agent to do the hard work of planning complex catered events. This saves our customers hours each week while delivering better, higher-quality menus and experiences.”

Significant Milestones

What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Sabeti cited:

“By building products our customers love, we were able to bootstrap our early growth with very little capital. We expanded into 12 cities, becoming a national provider with strong marketplaces and products in most major U.S. cities. We scaled the business to approximately $100M in ARR and expect significant growth in the coming years as we scale CaterAI.”

Customer Success Stories

Can you share any specific customer success stories? Sabeti highlighted:

“We serve a diverse set of customers, from some of the largest Fortune 500 companies to high-growth startups that will become the next generation of innovators. Some customer quotes include:

‘CaterAi virtually holds your hand through your event meal ordering to ensure nothing is missed and your team gets something that feels special instead of just DoorDashed,’ says Sarah Redman, Office Manager at Druva.

‘CaterAi takes the most stressful part of planning for a training and makes it the most delightful. It handles every detail, from dietary needs to on-time delivery, which lets me focus on creating productive training for my team’ said Jen Elmore, Senior Manager of Learning & Development at Paylocity.”

Funding/Revenue

Are you able to discuss funding and/or revenue metrics? Sabeti revealed:

“Since our founding, we’ve raised over $50M in funding and scaled the business across 12 cities to approximately $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR).”

Total Addressable Market (TAM)

What total addressable market (TAM) size is the company pursuing? Sabeti assessed:

“The catering and corporate food service market is massive, and we estimate it at $180 billion.”

Differentiation From The Competition

What differentiates the company from its competition? Sabeti affirmed:

“We are a leader in the catering and corporate food service industry because of the powerful technology we’ve built to fully automate catering for complex events. For our larger customers, what sets us apart is our ability to understand employees’ taste preferences and use that data to build custom meal programs and menus tailored to each user. We create bespoke food programs that no one else can.”

Future Company Goals

What are some of the company’s future goals? Sabeti emphasized:

“Our industry is massive, and we expect significant growth that will enable us to take market share from competitors. Our vision is to become a public company and the world’s largest global food service provider.”

Additional Thoughts

Any other topics you would like to discuss? Sabeti concluded:

“If you haven’t already, I recommend checking out caterai.com to see how our technology works when it comes to planning your next catered meal. The product feels like magic and makes catering effortless.”
