ZetaDisplay Acquires Retailmediatools To Expand Retail Media Software Capabilities

ZetaDisplay has agreed to acquire retailmediatools, a Berlin-based software company that provides an API-first, cloud-native retail media platform. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Completion of the acquisition and the transfer of ownership remain subject to customary closing conditions.

ZetaDisplay funded the acquisition using proceeds from the bond refinancing it completed in 2025. The transaction represents another step in the company’s strategy to expand its retail media capabilities and strengthen its position as a full-service technology partner for retailers and other organizations operating digital networks in physical locations.

Retailmediatools develops software that enables retailers and media operators to manage, integrate and scale retail media campaigns through a cloud-based platform. Its API-first architecture allows the technology to connect with existing advertising, commerce, customer data and digital signage systems.

The acquisition will expand ZetaDisplay’s ability to help retailers monetize their physical and digital customer touchpoints. Retail media allows retailers to sell advertising inventory across channels such as in-store displays, websites, mobile applications and other owned environments.

Retailers have increasingly invested in these networks as they seek new revenue streams and more effective ways to connect brands with consumers close to the point of purchase. Unlike traditional advertising channels, retail media can combine campaign delivery with first-party commerce and customer data, enabling more precise targeting and measurement.

ZetaDisplay already provides digital communication and retail media solutions that help customers manage content across physical environments. The company operates more than 125,000 digital displays across over 50 markets worldwide.

Adding retailmediatools will strengthen the software layer supporting those display networks. The combined offering could help customers manage advertising inventory, campaign workflows, content delivery, data integrations, and performance measurement through a more connected platform.

Retailmediatools’ cloud-native design is intended to support retailers operating across multiple locations and channels. Cloud-based infrastructure can make it easier to deploy updates, add new integrations, and coordinate campaigns without requiring separate installations at every site.

Its API-first approach also gives customers flexibility to connect the platform with third-party systems. These integrations may include point-of-sale technology, demand-side advertising platforms, customer relationship management software, loyalty programs, and analytics tools.

For ZetaDisplay, the acquisition expands its capabilities beyond operating digital displays and delivering content. It supports the company’s broader effort to become an end-to-end retail media partner capable of providing the technology, content, data and operational tools required to run commercial media networks.

The combination may allow customers to use ZetaDisplay for both the physical infrastructure behind in-store media and the software needed to manage advertisers, campaigns and inventory.

A unified offering can reduce the complexity of coordinating separate digital signage, advertising and data technology providers. It may also give retailers a more consistent view of performance across their media assets.

Retail media has become an important growth area as retailers seek to use their customer relationships, store networks and transaction data more strategically. Brands are also looking for advertising channels that can connect marketing activity more directly with purchases.

In-store media can be particularly valuable because it reaches customers while they are actively shopping. Digital displays can promote products, communicate offers and deliver paid advertising based on the location, time of day or audience associated with an individual store.

By integrating retailmediatools’ software with its existing digital display footprint, ZetaDisplay can help customers coordinate these campaigns across large networks while collecting data to evaluate their effectiveness.

The transaction also provides retailmediatools with access to ZetaDisplay’s European and international customer relationships, sales organization and operating infrastructure.

ZetaDisplay is based in Malmö, Sweden, and is owned by investment company Hanover Investors. The company provides digital communication and retail media technology to organizations seeking to improve customer engagement, operational communication and advertising revenue across physical environments.

Its platform combines technology, content and analytics, enabling customers to manage large display networks and deliver data-driven messaging across stores, offices and other locations.

The acquisition of retailmediatools is expected to strengthen ZetaDisplay’s ability to address the growing intersection of digital signage, commerce data and advertising technology.

By bringing retail media management software into its platform, ZetaDisplay aims to give retailers a more complete system for operating digital displays while creating and monetizing advertising inventory across their physical networks.
