Benzinga has raised $1.5 million from Lightbank, the investment fund started by Groupon founders Eric Lefkofsky and Brad Keywell. Benzinga is a financial media source company that delivers streaming news.
Airbnb is close to raising over $100 million based on a valuation of over $1 billion. This round is being lead by Andreessen Horowitz. Participation is expected from DST. Airbnb’s last round of funding was about $7.2 million and included Sequoia Capital, Greylock, SV Angel, Ashton Kutcher, and Youniversity Ventures. Airbnb launched out of Y Combinator.
Appsfire has raised $3.6 million in Series A funding from Idinvest, a French investment company. Appsfire plans on using the funding to accelerate its growth and sign on additional partners. Appsfire plans on building up their team to about seven people.
Twitter is rumored to be working on a photo sharing service that would compete directly with TwitPic and Yfrog. This rumor is in line with Twitter Platform Lead Ryan Sarver’s previous statement that Twitter ecosystem developers should refrain from building “client apps that mimic or reproduce the mainstream Twitter consumer client experience.”
