  • Adobe made several major announcements at the Adobe MAX 2019 event, including Photoshop on iPad, extended Adobe Fresco to Microsoft Surface, and Camera app

Adobe made several big announcements at the Adobe MAX 2019 event. The Adobe MAX 2019 event is featuring keynotes from musician Billie Eilish, artist Takashi Murakami, director and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, director M. Night Shyamalan, photographer David LaChapelle, and visual artist Shantell Martin. And comedian John Mulaney is hosting this year’s MAX Sneaks—a preview of technology innovation from Adobe Research.

At the event, Adobe revealed the next generation of Creative Cloud with a release of faster and more powerful products spanning multiple surfaces. Plus Adobe had officially launched Adobe Photoshop on iPad and extended Adobe Fresco to Microsoft Surface while also previewing Adobe Illustrator on iPad and the all-new Photoshop Camera. And Adobe also introduced Adobe Aero — which is a new authoring tool for creating in augmented reality.

Major updates have also been released for Lightroom, Premiere Pro, After Effects, InDesign and Adobe XD. And with this Creative Cloud release, new Adobe Sensei-powered features were introduced across products such as Auto Reframe in Premiere Pro, Object Selection in Photoshop, Auto Tone in Photoshop Camera, and Live Brushes in Fresco.

“We’re excited to push the frontiers of creativity to make everyone more productive and express their creative vision,” said Scott Belsky, chief product officer and executive vice president of Creative Cloud at Adobe. “Today’s announcements redefine the creative experience for everyone—not only seasoned professionals but also the next generation of designers, photographers, filmmakers, and illustrators.”

Adobe Photoshop On iPad

Adobe Photoshop on iPad

Adobe Photoshop on iPad was initially previewed at MAX 2018. And Adobe Photoshop on the iPad brings core compositing and retouching workflows to the tablet device. And it features full PSD interoperability, a touch-based user interface, cloud document access, and the power to work on multi-layered creations.

Adobe Fresco On Microsoft Windows

Adobe Fresco on Windows

Adobe Fresco was released for iPad earlier this fall and now it is available for Windows starting with Microsoft Surface Pro X devices and Wacom MobileStudio Pro hardware. And it provides a natural drawing and painting experience across devices by combining raster, vector, and new Live Brushes. Plus the watercolor and oil Live Brushes mix and interact on the screen just as they would in real life. And Fresco also enables artists to sync Photoshop brushes for a smooth roundtrip workflow between apps.

Adobe Illustrator For iPad And Photoshop Camera Previewed

At the event, Adobe previewed Illustrator’s future with a reimagined touch-based app that brings the precision and versatility of the desktop experience to the tablet. The app was designed with a more intuitive interface and the iPad update makes it possible for users to work with the same documents across devices and have seamless access to Adobe Stock, Adobe Fonts and all Creative Cloud Libraries.

Adobe Photoshop Camera

Photoshop Camera (pictured above) — which was previewed for the first time today — is a new mobile app that brings Photoshop that brings the photo editing software directly to the point of capture. Photoshop Camera gives users an easier way to create and share imaginative and high-quality images on social media. And as an intelligent camera app, it applies Photoshop Magic to any photo. But unlike native phone camera and third-party camera apps, Photoshop Camera utilizes Adobe Sensei to automatically enhance photo quality. Plus Photoshop Camera will include an expansive library of lenses and effects from leading artists and influencers such as musician Billie Eilish.

Creative Cloud Updates

The updates made to the flagship apps and new productivity features deliver additional value to all of the Creative Cloud subscribers.

For example, Lightroom launched interactive in-app tutorials on desktop offering new ways to learn how to edit photos and get inspired by professional photographers. And Lightroom also features Panorama Fill Edges — which magically fills in the edges of an image using Content-Aware Fill technology. Plus it can be accessed in-app and is available on Windows and Mac.

Premiere Pro released Auto Reframe — which is a new feature that uses Adobe Sensei technology to analyze footage and apply intelligent panning and cropping to keep the action in the frame. This feature helps creators save hours of time as they would not have to work on mundane tasks.

After Effects released major performance updates with smooth and fluid playback of cached previews, faster Multichannel EXR files, and faster Content-Aware Fill that uses half the memory.

InDesign now features new support of SVG Imports across digital and print design along with the option to use customizable Variable Fonts within the app. Plus designers can adjust typeface properties like weight, width, slant and optical size. Plus Adobe is also offering a new feature for Asset Link enabling direct linking between Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Assets and InDesign — which helps further accelerate print and digital content creation.

Adobe XD Live Coediting And Document History

The live Coediting enables multiple users to work in a document at the same time thus enabling real-time collaboration for design teams and stakeholders. And the addition of Document History allows users on a team to see a list of saved versions of documents, browse previously saved versions, and open any given version in a new window to see modifications.

Creative Cloud Desktop Gets Redesigned

Adobe has launched a redesign of the Creative Cloud desktop app — which provides a more intuitive way for accessing, updating, and learning Adobe apps. This update includes a powerful native search engine — which searches across all Creative Cloud assets and files along with access to tutorials. Plus it also features new ways to access services like Adobe Fonts, Adobe Stock, and Behance as well as a new full-screen management tool for Creative Cloud Libraries.

Collaborating With Creative Cloud Libraries

Adobe users are working with Creative Cloud Libraries to share creative elements that you need. The libraries are now fully integrated with XD and it allows you to leverage what you create in other applications like Illustrator directly in XD. Plus it can be accessed in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint so non-creatives can also easily create on-brand documentation and presentations with the most up-to-date assets. Plus Adobe also developed Library packs with pre-populated Libraries built to inspire or act as an entryway to Libraries for new users.

Adobe Aero Released

Adobe Aero

Augmented reality (AR) is becoming more ubiquitous in society so Adobe is building tools that make it possible to easily create for new mediums. One of the tools that helps create immersive content that blurs the line between digital and physical worlds.

Essentially, Aero helps users create AR experiences by utilizing familiar tools like Photoshop and Dimension for producing creations that pop in a three-dimensional environment. And the company is also actively integrating the recently acquired Substance suite into the Adobe family of products.  Substance is a standard for 3D material and texture design.

Pricing And Availability

The updates to the Creative Cloud desktop software are now available to all Creative Cloud subscribers. And Adobe Photoshop on iPad is available to all Creative Cloud customers who are subscribed to Photoshop. Plus Adobe Fresco is available as a single app for $9.99 per month or with most Creative Cloud plans. Adobe Illustrator on iPad will be available in 2020 and Adobe Aero is available as a free iOS app.
