  • Fellow.app, an app that helps managers collaborate with teams, announced it raised $6.5 million

Fellow.app, a company that was founded by the serial entrepreneurs who founded Fluidware (acquired by SurveyMonkey) including Aydin Y Mirzaee (CEO), Amin Mirzaee, and Samuel Cormier-Iijima, announced recently that it raised $6.5 million in seed funding and it landed Shopify as its first customer.

This round of funding was provided by Inovia Capital, Felicis Ventures, Garage Capital, and several angel investors.

Fellow.app is used by tens of thousands of employees at companies such as Shopify, Vidyard, Tulip Retail, and North. And it was built to help leaders manage 1-on-1 meetings, team sessions, feedback, and priorities in one intuitive cloud-based tool.

“Fellow has been a game changer for us,” noted Shopify’s Chief Talent Officer Brittany Forsyth. “I love how easy it is to use. It intuitively builds into my day-to-day rhythm, and the natural flow of Shopify, making it so much simpler to have valuable conversations.”

Aydin Mirzaee pointed out that the product solves a problem he encountered while building his previous company.

“We learned from software for every aspect of our business, from sales to marketing, to customer success. However, as our number of reports grew, we wondered: Why isn’t there a great app for managers of people?… We interviewed industry leaders to determine the traits that make someone a great manager and built our learnings into Fellow—an app that helps managers become exceptional leaders,” said Aydin Mirzaee.

As sales and marketing professionals get hired, they gain access to tools such as Salesforce, Hubspot, and Marketo. However, Fellow.app was designed specifically for managers of people.

“We fell in love with the product—how lightweight and easy to use it was and the fact that there finally was a great product built for managers,” added Aydin Senkut of Felicis Ventures.

The Fellow.app’s beta period started with 200 Shopify employees who provided the feedback that was necessary for building a compelling product. And now all Shopify employees around the world use Fellow.app for managing their work interactions and exchange peer-to-peer feedback.

“For far too long companies have ignored manager training and productivity tools,” explained  Inovia Capital partner Karamdeep Nijjar. “Fellow is poised to capture this up-and-coming market.”
