Google Flights To Send Out Alerts About Cheaper Travel Options

  • Google Flights has announced a new feature that will send out alerts about cheaper flight options based on flexible dates and nearby airports

The Google Flights service launched a new feature that has a goal of helping flyers save money based on nearby airports and travel dates. This feature was confirmed in USA Today by Craig Ewer, Communications Manager, Shopping & Travel at Google. Plus Google also offers a similar feature that will send you a notification if changing your travel date would lead to major savings.

“We want people to trust that Google Flights helps you find the best flights that best fit your needs,” said Google Flights product lead Thijs van As via USA TODAY.

The flyers do not buy tickets from Google. Google Flights aggregates the itineraries from airlines and travel agents.

Other travel portals like Kayak, Expedia, and Travelocity also allow you to set up price alerts. And some of these services also include an option for flexible dates and nearby airports.

Another useful feature built into Google Flights is an indicator of whether the flight price you are seeing is higher, lower, or typical. This feature is based on historical data.

Earlier this year, Google Flights also offered a price guarantee program. As part of that promotion, Google guaranteed that the price would not drop between August 13 and September 2 with a refund of the difference if it did. That promotion was only available for select itineraries originating in the U.S. with domestic or international destinations.
