  • MacKenzie Scott announced she has donated $4.158 billion to 384 organizations. These are the details.

Earlier this year, the world’s richest woman and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, who has an estimated net worth of $62 billion had signed the Giving Pledge — which is a commitment to give away at least of her wealth to charities. It is estimated that Scott has donated about $6 billion this year alone. MacKenzie Scott was previously married to Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos.

In a blog post on Medium, Scott wrote that she asked a team of advisors to help her accelerate 2020 giving through “immediate support to people suffering the economic effects of the crisis. They took a data-driven approach to identifying organizations with strong leadership teams and results, with special attention to those operating in communities facing high projected food insecurity, high measures of racial inequity, high local poverty rates, and low access to philanthropic capital.”

Scott acknowledged that the pandemic has substantially increased the wealth of billionaires during the pandemic. And economic losses and health outcomes have been worse for women, people of color, and people living in poverty.

Scott has donated to universities, community colleges, community food banks, the COVID-19 Response Fund, Easterseals, Feeding America, Goodwill, Grantmakers Concerned With Immigrants and Refugees, Invest Detroit, Meals on Wheels, Mission Asset Fund, the NAACP, the National Women’s Law Center, the Navajo & Hopi Families COVID-19 Relief Fund, the Self-Help Ventures Fund, United Way, and the YMCA.
