Charlotte, North Carolina-based MapAnything is a Location of Things (LoT) software platform company that works with more than 2,100 global enterprises by combining location intelligence, route optimization, and integrated asset tracking.

Recently, MapAnything announced that it raised $42.5 million in Series C funding from new investors GM Ventures and Andrew Leto. Existing investors Salesforce Ventures, Greycroft, Harbert Growth Partners, and David Stern also participated in this round. Leto — who is the executive chairman at Emerge — is joining MapAnything’s board of directors in conjunction with this funding round.

The Location-of-Things market is expected to hit $27 billion by 2022, according to Markets and Markets. This is driven by the demands of customers in the on-demand economy. And MapAnything is positioned to capitalize on this opportunity within nine years of innovation in the market.

“The ability of BtoB enterprises to derive value from location is a game changer for organizations with large mobile workforces,” said MapAnything CEO and co-founder John Stewart. “But historically, geographic intelligence has been limited to those with advanced analytics and GIS experience. MapAnything is democratizing location data to accelerate the productivity of mobile workers and enable customer experiences that exceed expectations.”

GM Ventures’ investment in MapAnything was strategic. MapAnything’s customer-focused solutions are being used by General Motors for its commercial growth strategy. GM’s sales to commercial customers have grown more than 7% per year since 2012 and the automaker delivered more than 11 million vehicles with built-in 4GLTE Wi-Fi hot spots.

GM surveyed some of the largest fleet managers in the country last month and more than 90% said that connectivity has the biggest potential for transforming operations. “We have seen firsthand how the most sophisticated fleet managers in the world rely on connectivity to optimize their investments in vehicles and people, and we’re just starting to scratch the surface of what’s possible using sophisticated tools like MapAnything,” added GM Fleet VP Ed Peper.

With the MapAnything platform, businesses can create location awareness tools within the system of work so field where field sales and service activity is planned, tracked, and executed. And it helps enterprises automate complex business processes and better better decisions using a combination of a patent-pending routing and scheduling engine with integrated GPS tracking capabilities.
