Skype (owned by Microsoft) has built a feature called “Meet Now,” which makes it easier to set up group video calls. Using the Meet Now feature, hosts are able to set up a free meeting with only a few clicks.

The host does not even need to have Skype installed. You can also invite anyone even if they are not on Skype. You can use Meet Now through this website: https://www.skype.com/en/free-conference-call/.

If the person that is invited has Skype installed, then it will open the app. Otherwise, it will open a web client via Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

“The Meet Now link is accessible anytime you need it. We will hold your call recordings for up to 30 days and media shared in the chat even longer. Meet Now in Skype is perfect for your conference calls, webinars or work interviews,” said Skype on a support page.

During the pandemic and the social distancing orders, Skype rival Zoom has seen its daily video conferencing usage jump from 10 million to 200 million in 3 months. Many educational organizations had also set up classroom sessions with students on Zoom. Zoom had to quickly deploy more advanced security features due to “Zoom-bombing” issues, which is when hackers crash a meeting using a cyberattack.
